REVIEW OF 'BACHCHHAN PANDEY' - Akki's magic fails to impress the audience

Introduction:

During the Corona era, only superstar Akshay Kumar was responsible for keeping us entertained with films like 'Bell Bottom' and then 'Sooryavanshi.' Now, Khiladi Kumar is back with 'Bachchhan Pandey,' a remake of the Tamil film 'Jigarthanda,' which was released in 2014. In this movie, directed by Farhad Samji, Akshay Kumar is all set to play the role of a don with not only one eye but also a stone's heart. It was released on the occasion of Holi, had all the ingredients for a good time, but it somehow failed to capture the audience's attention.

Analysis:

The story begins with an intriguing note. Myra (Kriti Sanon), an assistant director, aspires to be an independent director, and to do so, she wants to build a reputation for herself by directing a gangster biopic. To achieve her goal, she investigates numerous goons across the country. After a lot of research, she finally reaches Baghwa, which is terrorized by Bachchhan Pandey. Myra is accompanied by her buddy Vishu (Arshad Warsi), an aspiring actor. Baghwa, in North India, is one such location where chaos reigns. The police are beaten up in broad daylight, and the journalist is burned alive. The mafia here only speaks in gunshots, and Bachchhan Pandey is the kingpin of these terrible thugs (Akshay Kumar). Myra and Vishu are on a dangerous roller-coaster chasing Bachchhan Pandey's life, where killing is as ordinary as killing an insect.

Prateik Babbar as Virgin, Abhimanyu Singh as Pendulum, and Saharsh Kumar Shukla as Kaandi are all excellent members of Bachchhan Paandey's gang. Each of them receives a lot of screen time, and their good performances make them stand out. Sanjay Mishra's performance as Bufferia Chacha is amusing, although his character sketch might be much better. The role of Jacqueline Fernandez has failed to impress the audiences. Pankaj Tripathi appears in a cameo as acting coach Bhaves Bhoplo from Gujarat, however, his character doesn't add much to the plot. He gets genuine chuckles in the few time he's on screen.

The major issue with Farhad Samji's film, which has directed films such as Entertainment and 'Housefull 3,' is that the viewer has seen so much in the trailer that he does not receive the feeling of 'Picture Abhi Baaki Hai' while viewing it. The flick provides enjoyment in bits and pieces. This is a typical Bollywood masala movie and might not be loved by every type of audience.

Conclusion:

Because the director has spent the whole first half of the film creating the persona of Bachchhan Pandey, the film's pace begins to slow. Thankfully, the second half has a lot of twists and turns. The screenplay contains numerous errors. The film's editing and sharpening could have been done better. Maar Khayega' and 'Saare Bole Bewafa' are two of the most popular songs among music fans.

My Rating: 3/10
