'EVIL UNDER THE SUN' by AGATHA CHRISTIE - Book Review

EVIL UNDER THE SUN by AGATHA CHRISTIE Book Review

Introduction:

If you are a true fiction enthusiast, you might be familiar with Agatha Christie, the queen of mysteries. This book is ideal for satisfying your appetite for suspense if you enjoy detective fiction. Hercule Poirot, a renowned Belgian investigator with a spectacular moustache, and Colonel Weston, a Chief Constable who solves the hotel mystery, are two of the characters in Agatha Christie's book "Evil Under the Sun". The book was first published by The Collins Crime Club in the UK in June 1941, and it has since gained a lot of popularity throughout the world. The book is a full-fledged entertainment package to remove your at-home boredom.

Summary:

Hercule Poirot is on vacation at the posh Jolly Roger Hotel on an island off the coast of Devon when the story takes place there. Christie starts off by presenting each guest at the hotel, including the stunning former actress Arlena Stuart. One of the other characters refers to Arlena as "the personification of evil," and she certainly seems to be causing a lot of trouble. Patrick Redfern, a fellow guest, can't stop staring at her, and Arlena seems to be encouraging him despite how terrible this is to Patrick's young wife, Christine. Captain Marshall, Arlena's spouse, insists he hasn't noticed her behaviour, but is he being sincere? The teenage daughter of Marshall's first marriage despises her stepmother and feels betrayed by the manner she entered the household, bringing scandal and sadness with her.

Arlena leaves the hotel early one morning and is late for her rendezvous with Patrick. Her absence becomes immediately clear when she is found dead from being strangled on a remote beach. The cops begin to suspect an outsider was involved because every visitor had what seemed to be unchallengeable alibis. Hercule Poirot, everyone's favourite Belgian, has other plans, though. He has been staying at the hotel as well, and he has already seen a number of things that are helping him with his own investigation. Can he find the murderer? What further mysteries are buried in this elegant environment?

My Perspective:

There is a heck of a lot of hints, suspects, and ideas in "Evil Under the Sun". It does appear that much luck had a role in how the crime was committed. However, I was quite aback by how the riddle was solved. You are sure to fall in love with a few of these people because there is such a diverse range of personalities here. People and their emotions are both understood by Agatha Christie.

The plot is complex and creative, but it lacks the human element that makes her books so captivating. Although I was unable to figure out the riddle, I was able to observe how wonderfully all of the clues came together, much like a jigsaw puzzle, as Poirot puts it. He has such a fascinating personality. Though you can't say you like him, he captures your attention. I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Evil Under the Sun", in my opinion. Although it may not be Christie's best work, I liked it, especially for its strong character development and story framework.

My Rating: 7.5/10
