'DEATH ON THE NILE' BY AGATHA CHRISTIE - Book Review

Introduction:

When we discuss crime novelists, Agatha Christie holds a special place in the hearts of crime novel lovers. The way she makes the readers turn pages after pages is just fantabulous. The intriguing storyline and interesting characters never fail to amuse us. Not being able to rest before finishing the book is a general side effect of her books.

Summary of the book:

‘Death on the Nile’ was published on 1st November 1937. Even after more than eight decades, people find it interesting. The story mainly revolves around Linnet Ridgeway who has moved to England from America and has inherited a great amount of money from her grandfather. She is also extremely beautiful and has brains. According to the papers, she is going to marry Lord Windlesham who she is not in love with. Her best friend was Jacqueline de Bellefort and she is engaged to Simon Doyle. She begs Linnet to give a job to Simon. But Linnet marries Jacqueline’s fiancé and Jacqueline is devastated. When Linnet and her husband Simon are on their honeymoon trip to Egypt, Jacqueline, who believes in taking revenge, follows them everywhere. This gets Linnet on her nerves. They even try to deceive Jacqueline but find them on their cruise up the Nile. Coincidentally, our great detective Hercule Poirot is also enjoying his vacation in Egypt where Linnet seeks his help. She tells Monsieur Poirot that she was surrounded by enemies and extremely scared. But after some days she is shot dead in her sleep, which gets Monsieur Poirot into action. Many passengers on that cruise have been made into the murder suspect list. Now, he needs to find the killer along with his old friend Colonel Race.

Analysis:

This was the third novel by Agatha Christie, which I read with great excitement. I was glued to the book from the first page itself. I just couldn’t stop myself from reading as I needed to know who the killer was. The story is captivating. It seeks your attention towards every detail. There are so many characters in this story. But the way Agatha Christie has portrayed the characters brilliantly, one gets to remember them so easily. If crime novels fascinate you, then you should undoubtedly get your hands on this one.

Conclusion:

The plot was simple and intriguing. If you read it carefully, the hints given in the book will also make you realize who the killer is even before finishing it. It was a good read, but the suspense was not so over the top. I absolutely enjoyed it and I recommend this book to all crime novel lovers. I would rate this book 7.5 out of 10 as the storyline becomes predictable towards the ending.

Happy Reading!!
