Introduction:

‘Gone Girl’ was my first book by American writer Gillian Flynn. As a crime thriller lover, I was so curious to read this particular book. The gone girl was published in 2012. The way the writer has created the story is totally unique in its way. I have felt various kinds of emotions while reading this one. I must say, after completing this book, its story is something which I am unable to forget.

Summary of the book:

The title ‘Gone Girl’ gives us a hint of the plot. The beautiful wife of Nick Dunne, Amy Elliott Dunne, goes missing on the morning of their fifth marriage anniversary. She was the inspiration for the book series ‘Amazing Amy’ which is run by her parents. She is a scholar, a funny and beautiful girl. They were so happily married in New York. But after both of them got removed from their respective jobs and to take care of Nick’s dying mother, they had to shift from New York to a small-town Missouri. After moving to this city, they both were going through a troubled marriage. In her diary, she had written how beautifully Nick used to treat him when they got married. But after a few years of their marriage, Nick was maintaining some sort of distance, and because of this, Amy was devastated. She wanted to get pregnant to start a family with Nick, but he was against it. She also mentioned in her diary that she was afraid of Nick as he might kill her someday. So, could it be Nick, who is the reason for her missing or has someone kidnapped her? Now the detectives have to find Amy and Nick has to help them.

Analysis:

The writer has divided this whole story into 3 parts. This story will ask for your complete attention for sure. The story takes some time to pick up the pace, but once you reach that part, you won’t be able to stop yourself from reading before completing it. It's the talent of Gillian Flynn as a writer which can change your perception of her characters as the story continues. For example, while starting the story I was sympathizing with Nick as he has lost his job and is going through a financial crisis. But after reading some pages, I hated him from the core of my heart. But towards the end of the story, I felt extremely bad for him as he was going to live in hell forever. That’s the magic touch of the writer, I can say. Through the same character, she successfully made us feel so many emotions.

Conclusion:

The plot was extremely captivating. Thriller lovers should not miss this book at any cost. Though there is not much suspense or twists or turns, the way the story is narrated will keep you hooked on it till the end. Even after finishing the book, the story will keep replaying in your mind. I would like to rate this book 8.5 out of 10 as the way the plot keeps unfolding itself throughout the story.

Happy Reading!!
