Introduction:

Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah, both don't need any kind of introduction. Their strong personalities and magnificent acting make them fabulous actresses. In 'Jalsa' they both have portrayed the role of mothers who can go to any length for their children. They can be both Devi as well as the devil for the sake of their children. Director Suresh Triveni has tried to make this movie a suspense thriller and heart-breaking at the same time.

Analysis:

Maya Menon (Vidya Balan) is a well-known TV journalist. She is successful and fierce, but unfortunately, she is involved in a hit & run case with a girl while returning from her office at night. Coincidentally, she is the daughter of her maid Ruksana (Shefali Shah). Instead of taking the victim to the hospital and paying for her crime, she tries to cover up the entire incident, to protect her fame. The maid is also unaware of the crime of her employer. As the story continues, we meet some characters who try to bury this matter for their own good. Don't worry. I will not be giving any spoilers here. You need to watch the movie to know will Ruksana be able to uncover the truth or not & will Maya be punished for her misdeed.

Triveni previously collaborated with Balan in the critically acclaimed 2017 film 'Tumhari Sulu.' With 'Jalsa,' his versatility as a director is once again demonstrated. Through the emotions of the key characters, he brings the human side of the plot to life, and this is what keeps 'Jalsa' intriguing for the most part. While watching the movie, we realize that humans can go to any length to save themselves, no matter they are rich or poor. The difference in class can be visible between Maya and Ruksana. The audience is captivated by the conflicting characters and eager to find out how the drama will end.

As Maya and Ruksana, Balan and Shah deliver outstanding performances. Both women are already impressive in their way, but 'Jalsa' throws them together, and it's a breath of fresh air that neither one cancels out the other. They're both incredibly appealing to watch, and the way Triveni has successfully managed to capture their raw feelings is a treat to watch. Other actors like Iqbal Khan and Manav Kaul have also portrayed their characters well. While Rohini Hattangadi, who plays Maya's mother, is a delight to see on screen.

Conclusion:

The only drawback is 'Jalsa' is the story's complexity, which causes you to lose track of time. But it will not make you lose your interest in it. Everything we do has a consequence, and the movie emphasizes this notion. The climax scene of this movie is unpredictable. Watch it if you want to immerse yourself in an engaging plot that draws you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
