'THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW' by A J Finn - Book Review

The Woman in the Window

Introduction:

A J Finn's novel, "The Woman in the Window," is a fiction narrative that was published in 2018. It is a #1 New York Times bestseller and Finn's first novel. The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Gillian Flynn, Stephen King, and other well-known authors and newspapers have complimented it, calling it gripping and "unputdownable,".
This novel is well written, with plenty of character insights that ring true. It also moves through story twists, shocking revelations, and plenty of thrills and surprises.

Summary:

This is the story of Anna Fox, an agoraphobic (a person who is afraid of being exposed to the outside world) woman who spends her entire day inside her home. She lives alone in her large home after her husband and daughter got separated from her. She hasn't left her house in ten months since the separation. She also suffers from a variety of illnesses and drinks excessively to distract herself from the awful sorrow of being apart from her child and husband. Anna has always claimed that she loves her spouse. She has rented her basement to David, who is always willing to assist her with her domestic issues.

She used to be a physiological doctor who worked with children. Her window, where she spends watching her neighbors, is her link to the outside world. When the Russells move in, she begins to keep an eye on them with her Canon. Russell, who has recently relocated, is a beautiful family of three (Mr. and Mrs. Russel and their son Ethan). They are a re-enactment of Anna's life before her separation from her husband and child. Ethan reminds her a lot of Olivia (Anna's daughter).

The actual tragedy begins when Anna hears Mrs. Russell scream and sees Mrs. Russell stabbed from her window. Anna, who has been drinking and taking those pills all night, is unable to prove what she saw. She tries everything she can to discover the truth about what has happened, but no one believes her because she is considered a lost cause. Mrs. Russel is also standing right in front of her when the cops arrive to investigate.

At the same time, Anna refuses to admit that she is Mrs. Russell, claiming that she only met Mrs. Russell that morning and they spent a few hours at Anna's house talking about their lives and Ethan. She did have a pendant with Ethan's photo on it, which she showed Anna. If Anna isn't fabricating events and if she isn't lying, then who is the actual Mrs. Russell, the one who is there in front of the cops, or the one who was killed? Ethan also accepts that she really is her mother. Is Anna making things up or has she actually seen something?

Review:

This book is a roller coaster ride, but it started out slow. Anna's character has been thoughtfully designed by the author. He took his time to illustrate the suffering of a single woman whose life had become miserable after witnessing the murder.

The ending was very unexpected, and there was so much suspense. Despite its slow start, the book retains the reader's attention until the finish. I thought Anna had seen something at first, but after reading a few more paragraphs, I began to suspect that she was suffering from some sort of sickness that caused her to see unreal things. I mean some sort of condition, because it was so convincing.

Every character in the story has a vital role to play. The book is not focused on a single individual. The climax was one of my favourites. There are a lot of twists and turns. I've had a great mystery thriller experience.

My Rating: 8.5/10

Happy Reading :)
