The Threefold Miseries Of Life And How To Easily Overcome These Material Miseries

The Threefold Miseries

The reason behind a living entity's suffering is the forgetfulness of his relationship with God. And the source of happiness is knowing God to be the highest enjoyer of all human actions, the owner of all lands and planets, and the most sincere friend of all living entities. The perfect yogi understands that the living being conditioned by the three modes of material nature is exposed to threefold material miseries as a result of the forgetting of his relationship with God.

The phrase "three worlds" is used extensively. There are three of them: upper, middle, and lower. We are currently in the middle. It has both sadness and happiness, heartbreak and pleasure. The dualities lie between the bookends of two opposing natural events: birth and death.

The individual spirit soul enters a body comprised of three modes of nature at birth: kindness, passion, and ignorance. The specific makeup of each person differs, yet patterns emerge to produce the groupings known as species.

Death occurs when the same soul departs from the body. There is pleasure and happiness at birth as a result of the gift of life, and grief at death as a result of losing the association with the departed. However, the individual truly realises that the spirit soul is consistent throughout. It is unaffected by the body's alterations.

The suffering that occurs when in a material body in the earthly sphere is caused by three factors. These are sometimes referred to as the "threefold miseries of life," so let's go over them one by one.

The threefold miseries are:

  • Adhibhautika: Those miseries which arise from the mind and body.
  • Adhyatmika: Those difficulties are caused by other living beings.
  • Adhidaivika: Those miseries caused by natural disasters over which one has no control.

Adhibhautika:

The source in this case is a bhuta, which is a living entity. You're going through the motions of the day just fine. Everything is alright. The weather is pleasant. There is no work available. Finally, it's time to chill out.

You intend to go to the theatre to watch a movie. You are preparing to enter a parking space in the parking lot. Someone starts yelling at you after you park and walk towards the theatre's entrance. They were after the parking space. You didn't notice them, and you weren't in a hurry to take anything from anyone.

You don't even care in your head. You would have happily parked elsewhere to accommodate. However, this individual is not rational. They scream and yell, cursing as they go. The incident has completely ruined the rest of your day. This is just one example of the many different types of suffering experienced by others with whom we share our physical existence. So, adibhautika miseries come from other bhutas or living beings, such as wild animals, snakes, or enemies.

Adhyatmika:

You used to be able to eat biryani with comfort. Actually, you never paid attention to what you ate. In life, everything went swimmingly. You weren't too concerned.

The transformation is abrupt and dramatic as a result of growing in age. Now, eating biryani triggers a skin breakout. There are rashes and fat deposits all over the body. You must now use extreme caution in what you consume. There are so many more issues inside as well. It's not like when you were twenty.

Adhyatmika sufferings are caused by the atma(soul) or self. Internal illnesses, both mental and physical, are possible. There is old age after birth. The disease is also present. These are elements that contribute to death, which is unavoidable. The ādhyātmika duhkha or tāpa is the result of physiological pain and mental sorrow. This category includes inherited disorders such as leprosy, disabilities such as blindness or lameness, and diseases induced by violations of health and sanitation standards. This category also includes mental suffering generated by thoughts and anxiety, attachment and repulsion.

Adhidaivika:

You have relatives coming to see you. It is their first time away from home. They are visiting a new country. You're eager to have them, but you're also concerned that everything will go smoothly. There should be no issues.

Sure enough, there is an issue with the weather immediately away. On the day they are due to arrive, there is a snowstorm in the area. You keep track of the flight's progress because it took off despite the fact that many previous flights had been cancelled.

It is eventually diverted to another city. Your relatives will arrive two days later. No problem, as long as you arrive at the airport on the planned day. The problem here is that planes landing has caused a traffic bottleneck on the runway. These were the flights that were cancelled due to the snowstorm two days ago.

You wind up waiting for hours and hours at the airport. It's also the coldest day of the year. You haven't had a cold like this in a long time. You have no way of interacting with your relatives, as their phone service only works in their country of origin.

Higher powers are responsible for this kind of misery. The term "acts of God" is used in insurance plans. Hurricanes, tornadoes, snowstorms, heat waves, and other natural disasters are caused by the devas' (Goddesses') influence. Daiva refers to the power of time, nature, and the unseen hand or fate. These are the people who live in the heavenly realm. They have material bodies as well, but they are largely made up of the mode of goodness. As a result, life expectancy increases.

The easiest and most effective way to get rid of these miseries:

Whether you live higher, lower, or somewhere in between, you will experience some form of misery. The spiritual realm is a very another story. Vaikuntha, which means "free of anxieties," is one name for it. The Supreme Lord inhabits on the several worlds in various expansion forms. His body is filled with happiness and wisdom (Sat-cit-ananda), and there is no separation between material and spiritual for Him. He is not subject to life's threefold miseries.

He preserves His transcendental position as He descends to the terrestrial planet. God demonstrates that He also saves His devotees from the common sorrows of existence by absorbing the forest fire in Vrindavana and preventing King Indra's rain attack (Shri Krishna's acts to save His devotees). As a result, the wise seek His refuge rather than attempting to overcome their own tribulations. They are completely protected by singing the holy name:

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare,
Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.
